Once again, his little pet had passed out before him. As he stood outside on the balcony, watching the storm take its time rolling in, his mind waged a personal war against his body. She felt good in his arms. Too good. He wanted to keep holding her, stroking her hair and inhaling that sweet scent of hers that tingled his senses.

Taurik knew it wasn’t a good idea. She needed her rest, and he needed to deal with that throbbing part of him that ached whenever she came too close. His symptoms were growing worse, and the longer he spent with her, the harder it was to control his instincts.

Something primal was waking from deep inside of him, and it instilled fear in him. His urges to breed this human and continue his line did not like to be ignored. And if it came down to it, it wouldn’t allow him to ignore it.

His body was undoubtedly threatening him.

Taurik’s spine went stiff. His tails went stiff. His ears stood still, no longer moving at every hint of sound. He was frozen, filled with both desire and dread.

And then slowly his hooves began to paw the marble beneath him as if attempting to dig into it as though it were impacted soil in need of tilling.

Clip. Clop.

The clip-clop was dull at first, but as his agitation grew, so did the noise.

Clip. Clop.

CLIP. CLOP.

Taurik kept striking the floor beneath him, a slow burst of energy taking over until he could no longer hold her in his arms because his need for her was so great, the urges were about to throw him over a cliffside and turn into something real.

CLIP!

Taurik stomped his hoof in one swift act of desperation, sending pause to everything else. Even his mind nearly on the verge of allowing him to run rampant.

So that was it then, he decided. No more. He would see to her needs, make sure she was cared for, but he wouldn’t let himself grow any closer, or any more attached.

This had to end now, before it became impossible to separate the prince his people needed him to be from the savage part his desires wanted him to be.

Pulling away from the balcony, Taurik brought her back inside. Every fiber of muscle strained as he placed her gently back down in his bed. Again, his body demanded that he lie down next to her. Demanded that he pull her against his chest, wrap his arms and tails around her until her scent mingled with his. Demanded that he take her.

No.

He took several strides back before his hooves no longer obeyed, and with little restraint left he returned to her side, his teeth gritting down to useless stubs as he forced his hands to not reach out and touch her skin.

Why was this so hard?

What was it about this human that made it so easy for him to lose all sense of mind and control? Was it an evolutionary trait? Were humans born and bred to bewitch other races?

That had to be it.
